He is a Member of Parliament representing the Bapatla constituency of Andhra Pradesh in Lok Sabha. He also serves on the Panel of Chairpersons. Prior to his political career, he was an IPS officer borne on the undivided Andhra Pradesh and later the Telangana cadre during which he served in various policy and policing roles. For his exceptional achievements, he has been awarded the Indian Police Medal, President’s Police Medal as well as the Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak.
As the Executive Director, AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation he was responsible for the development of 17 mega-infrastructure projects including the development of Hyderabad HITEC City. His role as a policy specialist also included active participation in the drafting of AP Industrial Policy, 2000; AP IT Policy, 2000; AP Infrastructure Development Enabling Act, 2001 and the SEZ Act, 2005.
He has also been the advisor to the UNGCNI Task Force on Road Safety and the Bureau of Police Research & Development, MHA on National Road Safety Policy. His passion for education led him to author the book titled “Trafficking in Persons - Tip of the Iceberg”, published by UNIFEM which became instrumental in the enactment of the Right to Education Act, 2009. He has also authored the National Road Safety Plan, 2019.
He founded MALUPU during his tenure as the Chairman, Leather Industries Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (LIDCAP) which provides sustainable livelihood solutions to leather workers. He also set up the KP Foundation which works on the motto of ‘No Poverty, Only Dignity’ to improve livelihoods in aspirational districts across India. His Ambedkar School of Advocacy on Public Policy works on strengthening evidence-based public policy formulation through primers, research and strategic advisory services to Members of Parliament.
